Starting an online presence is tricky and you can fail on so many steps even before you start. Not to mention the competition which is growing every day. Having some basic things done correctly from the beginning helps a lot. This means a lot of research even before you start. Try to learn from other people’s mistakes.
I knew a blog/vlog name should be short and catchy. One thing I planned from the beginning is to have a blog website that would accompany the Youtube vlog channel. And here comes the tricky part. Finding an available .com domain that is catchy is really, really hard. I mean, the actual work of checking if the domain is available isn’t really hard, but finding that one domain that is available, and catchy and you like… well that is a completely different story.
After hours of trying to find something, I had a list of possible ideas that seemed ok and had an available .com domain. A bit of A-B testing with a very, very small group of people gave me insights into some names that I thought would be great… but it turns out the reactions weren’t all that great.
Since I knew the topics would be about previous experiences; stuff that has already happened… you know, the stuff you can reflect on the name made logical sense. But just the “reflect” name or “reflection” wasn’t catchy really (at least to me).
And while looking at those names written down on the paper I added a letter X in front of the “reflect” and it somehow looked cool to me. Much better than just reflect. And the domain was available.
And that’s (a very, very long story turned into this very short one) how the birth of X-Reflect happened.
