Yes, moving during the pandemic time is not smart. That’s why I must say right from the start that this was NOT a tourist trip to one of the biggest European cities, Berlin.
I am from Croatia, and for the last couple of years, I’ve been living in its capital, city of Zagreb. From the beginning of 2020, I’ve decided to move to Berlin and started looking for jobs. After about 2 months and multiple offers, I’ve decided to start my job in Berlin on the 1st of April, 2020.
Keep in mind that the whole process was started way, way before Europe was hit hard by Coronavirus (COVID-19).
My flight was originally scheduled on the 16th of March 2020 from Ljubljana which meant I would go by bus from Zagreb to Ljubljana and then fly to Berlin. A week before the departure time, things started to get really serious and had been progressing extremely fast day by day. On Friday, 13th of March 2020 I’ve decided not to risk it and fly the next day directly from Zagreb.
Saturday, 14th of March 2020 I’ve arrived at the airport. It was very foggy to add a bit more drama to the whole situation. And from there, everything went very smoothly. Surprisingly, no additional security checks nowhere. Not in Zagreb, not in Berlin. At the same time, they started closing airports and borders… so that’s a bit confusing.
Anyhow, check a short video below how the trip actually went.
Sidenote: If I had waited a bit more I wouldn’t get the apartment because my landlord was leaving Berlin on 16th of March. So yeah, a lot of stuff was at stake.
